John Baumann – Live at The Table at Madeley – Thursday, May 7 –

There is a stretch of Interstate 10 somewhere east of El Paso where the road dips so far south that America starts to fade. It’s a place of heat lightning, midnight radio static, and stories that feel older than the highway itself. Those are the kinds of places John Baumann has built his career writing about.

A fifth-generation Texan and one of the most respected storytellers in modern Texas songwriting, Baumann stands in the lineage of Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, John Prine, and James McMurtry. His songs are rooted in observation rather than autobiography, allowing him to inhabit lives that aren’t his own and tell their stories with empathy, humor, and grit. For Baumann, songwriting is about stepping into someone else’s boots for three and a half minutes and inviting the listener along for the ride.

Based in Austin, Baumann has quietly become a songwriter’s songwriter—crafting narratives that feel cinematic, lived-in, and deeply tied to place. His work has caught the attention of artists far beyond Texas, including Kenny Chesney, who recently recorded Baumann’s song “Gulf Moon.” Yet no matter how far his songs travel, Texas remains his canvas: from San Antonio and the Hill Country down to the border, from dance halls and neon bars to lonely highways and back again.

Onstage, Baumann delivers these stories with warmth, wit, and an unforced honesty that pulls audiences in close. His songs move effortlessly between humor and heartbreak, solitude and celebration, capturing the highs and lows of love and life with a steady hand and a poet’s eye.

Join us Thursday, May 7 at The Table at Madeley for an intimate evening with one of Texas’s finest storytellers—an artist who turns places into characters, moments into movies, and songs into journeys you don’t forget.
